Well, I think I need to clarify this: Manus personal agent mode is not based on @openclaw. It is still built entirely on Manus's in-house architecture.

That said, I still believe it's necessary to pay respect to the OpenClaw project, because it further experimented with and helped shape the "safety boundary" between users and agents.

Exactly one year ago today, we were doing the final polishing before Manus's release. The problem that troubled us the most at the time was actually: How do you make users trust an agent? This isn't about the source code - it's about the uncertainty that comes with limitless possibility.

Back then, non-technical users, and really the entire world, had no concrete experience with AI agents. User education therefore fell onto a small startup. 😂

To address this, we designed four things:
* Cloud Sandbox: A fully isolated virtual machine is launched for each task so it cannot affect the user's own computer.
* Task Replay: You can replay tasks shared by others in read-only mode to safely explore what an agent is.
* Interruptible Action Chain: You can inspect the agent's step-by-step actions and interrupt or correct them on the fly.
* GUI Takeover: Whenever login or human intervention is required, the agent requests the user to take control of the browser, mouse, and keyboard.

These safety measures accompanied Manus through its first year. They allowed millions of users to experience a general agent for the first time, and eventually became standard features across agent products.

Times have changed. As agents complete tasks more reliably, run faster, models grow smarter, and users become more familiar with them, we believe it's time to move from "building trust" toward "lowering the barrier".

We are now doing this by:
* Reusing Manus's mature virtualization layer so users can use it without configuration.
* Introducing a new context-management system so users won't need to switch sessions in messengers.
* Using intelligent subagent scheduling to parallelize tasks while balancing speed and quality.
* Replacing more slash commands and menus with natural language.

This strongly aligns with our long-standing mission: To extend human reach. To put the full power of AI to work by unlocking the code, not just for engineers but for everyone.

➡️Google Play:
Prerequisites: Google Play Developer account ($25 one-time fee)

Steps:

1. In Manus, click Publish → select the Android tab
2. Click Build APK — Manus packages your app in AAB format
3. Go to your Google Play Console and navigate to Internal testing
4. Click Create new release and upload the AAB file
5. Under Testers, add your email address (or create an email list for your team)
6. Copy the opt-in link
7. Open the link on your Android device, accept the invite, and install

➡️App Store:
Prerequisites:
• Apple Developer account ($99/year)
• iPhone with TestFlight installed

Steps:

1. In Manus, click Publish → select the iOS tab
2. Click Create app and follow the prompts to connect your Apple Developer account
3. Manus will package and upload your app to App Store Connect automatically
4. Wait for Apple to process your build
5. You'll receive an email from TestFlight when it's ready
6. Open the email on your iPhone, tap the link, and install via TestFlight

Big update: Typewriter is coming as a Chrome extension too.

About 1 hour ago, I got a request from @stefanofa asking for a Chrome extension version of Typewriter. Honestly, it’s a great idea—this means Windows users can use it as well.

So… 1 hour later, I shipped it.

At the same time, I submitted it to the Chrome Web Store for review.
Manus helped me design the cover image.
I quickly recorded a 10+ second tutorial video.
And Manus walked me through all the annoying/complex permission-justification text you have to write.

The one thing Manus couldn’t do: pay the “not cheap” developer fee ($5). That part’s on me.

If all goes well, I should be able to officially launch the Typewriter extension next week.

😕 Typing effects in product videos usually mean extra motion graphics in post. Pain.

So I built a Mac app with Manus: Typewriter.  
It types one character at a time—instant typewriter effect.

Record with Screen Studio and you get:  
→ the frame follows your cursor  
→ nonstop on-screen typing  
→ basically no tedious post work

Tested @ChatGPTapp vs. Gemini vs. @ManusAI to write a 200-page book.

My father in law mentioned a couple of non-fiction book ideas over dinner. I was curious how fast AI could write them for him. 

Also a great opportunity to show him how good the tools have gotten. 

We tested plus tier of ChatGPT, Gemini & Manus, all of which I’m subscribed to, simultaneously. 

ChatGPT: wrote the outline perfectly (they all did) but said it could only write a chapter one, by one, which required tedious copy & pasting for 10 chapters. 

Gemini: roadblock on Chapter 1. Couldn’t write a single chapter that was 5k words due to limits.  

Manus: one-shotted the entire book. Took 20 minutes. Wrote each chapter in parallel. 

His comment, “Looks like Manus is the most useful of them all.”

Incredible to see that Manus is the only product in the world where you can write a single prompt and get an entire 200-page book back on any topic (from what I can tell). 

This task made really clear to me the difference between a consumer “chatbot” & “agent” experience.

That day, when we heard ChatGPT was launching an agent product, I might have been the happiest person on earth. Many investors asked the same question: “What if ChatGPT builds the same thing?”

Honestly, we couldn’t really answer—because by the time people ask that, they already believe they know the answer: model companies are superior by nature, and anything they build must be better than what application companies build.

But when the product actually launched, everyone realized they aren’t the best by default. With stronger agentic architecture and better context engineering, application companies can outperform frontier labs, too. Now we finally have the chance to prove it. What a happy day.

I’ve personally helped oversee 122 events in 2025, but this one stuck out as my favorite.

It was the day of our first event together.

At 9:00 AM, OpenAI dropped “Agent Mode."
Our event was at 5:00 PM.

Every other startup would have been frozen like a deer in the headlights. The largest player in the AI space just dropped a feature that could make your startup obsolete.

The @AICollectiveCo + @ManusAI team hopped on a call immediately.

We pitched a narrative shift: "The Battle of the Agents."

They didn’t hide from the news.
They put it on the big screen.

Manus showcased a LIVE demo of their agents vs. OpenAI’s release on stage that night.

And the Manus agent won.

Fast forward, and they achieved $100M ARR quicker than any startup in history.

That level of fearlessness is exactly why they won.

This was almost as fun as the first time we worked on their original product launch, but that’s a story for a different day. ;)
