His staff and patients, me included, wrote back asking him to reconsider.

Today he emailed us again. Subject line: "Unretirement."

The whole episode is so heartwarming. I hope my employees and customers ask me to unretire one day. That's a life well lived.

If you ever need art framed in San Francisco, I cannot recommend Yoshida enough. Kurata-san has run the shop for decades and still approaches every piece with extraordinary care. 

He will talk with you at length about what the art means to you, where it will hang, and how it should be framed. He still writes every invoice by hand, so you know exactly what materials you are paying for.

My favorite part is picking up the finished piece. He unwraps it completely, presents it with unmistakable pride, then carefully wraps it all over again.

Yoshida doesn't have a website, and Kurata-san is too shy to let me photograph him. But the next time you need a framing shop, go visit him.

You can close it by wanting less (hard in a world built to make you want more), or by getting what you want (but the goalposts always move).

Turns out, there's a third way: want what you already have.

One practice for this is negative visualization. Pick one thing you treasure. Imagine losing it, just for a moment.

Then come back to the present. You may see what you have with fresh eyes, and feel grateful it’s already here.

No matter which plan you’re on, we don’t use your data to train AI models. Our agreements with subprocessors prohibit them from using it for model training, too.
