This funding will help us bring Nova Pathfinder to flight, accelerate development of our larger 15-ton-class Nova Block 2 vehicle, and build the production capacity required to fly at scale.

Regret the tone of my post on data centers yesterday.

What I should have said:

There were reasonable concerns about data centers 18ish months ago: water, taxes, jobs, electricity prices, the environment and what they would do to small towns. Well-structured data center projects have largely addressed these concerns today and we should be celebrating this. 

On balance, data centers are awesome for America in every way.

On water: U.S. data centers use a fraction of what golf courses use. A lot of the numbers from 18 months ago were off by over 1000x. Newer data centers use closed-loop systems or recycled water. Should be required by every town approving a data center project.

On taxes: looking only at sales-tax exemptions, as Ronan Farrow did, is the wrong way to evaluate this. Data centers pay significant property taxes. Loudoun County, which is the wealthiest county in America, now collects on the order of $1 billion a year from data centers. In Quincy, WA, data centers are more than half the property-tax roll. Over time, property taxes can go to zero while government spending increases in these towns.

On jobs: this has been unambiguously awesome for blue collar Americans. Demand for electricians, plumbers, welders, HVAC techs, and contractors has gone vertical, and it is not a one-time construction job. These buildings get upgraded and expanded over time. That is why the building trades are fighting for them, and why some unions are now treating opposition to data centers as a reason not to endorse politicians.

On power: the original fear was that households would pay for the incremental electricity demand in the form of higher prices. That is why the ratepayer-protection deals and the new large-load tariffs exist. The right structure is: the data center brings or pays for new generation and signs a contract long enough that existing customers are protected. Where that is happening, utilities are cutting or freezing residential rates and saying so on the record. Where it is not, people are right to object. Electricity prices are going down *today* in a number of large states because of data centers.
 On the environment: data centers overwhelming use natural gas today, which is the cleanest power source outside of nuclear, solar and wind. And the companies that are building the data centers are committed to carbon neutrality such that an equivalent amount of solar will likely be built. Maybe more importantly, the data centers need batteries to function effectively and these batteries can also sell energy back into the grid (which recently prevented blackouts in Texas). Over time, data centers will run on solar plus batteries.

On the towns: Poverty in Quincy, WA fell from 29% to 6%. Data center taxes paid for a new high school, a hospital, a library, police and fire stations. This is happening in many left for dead  former mill and farm towns that had no other bidder for the land.

Data centers are actually reindustrializing parts of America and creating the kind of working-class jobs both parties have spent decades claiming to support. That should not be a partisan issue. Data centers can and should be awesome for America and they increasingly, overwhelmingly are. Supporting the outsourcing of data centers to China will likely age just as well as support for the outsourcing of high quality, blue collar manufacturing jobs to China has aged.

When the facts change, I change my mind. I hope that reasonable people who had good faith reasons to oppose data centers at least consider updating their beliefs given the change in the facts over the last 18 months. This really matters for America.

I will say I also think the idea of making data centers beautiful is a good one that has yet to be implemented. Data centers should be just as beautiful as Grand Central Station. We can learn a lot from the railroad buildout. Neoclassical revival ftw.

Might write up open-weight AI tomorrow as this is equally essential to America.

I disagree with Dario on most things, but this is spot on: “At this point, saying that AI will cure cancer is more a cliché than it is inspiring, and most people think it is deceptive. The thing that will work is actually curing cancer.”

The thing that frustrates me is that some people often draw a straight line from smarter models → cures, without acknowledging how much infrastructure is missing in between. We’ve still got a lot of work to do, people. 

The regulatory bottleneck gets a lot of attention. But the bigger bottleneck may be that in many places, we’re lacking the right biological data. AI can’t reason its way to cures if we haven’t generated the data required to understand the disease in the first place.

Ironically, that’s why I’m most bullish on AI making dramatic progress in cancer first: decades of investment have produced extraordinary datasets across genomics, pathology, imaging, clinical outcomes, and more.

For complex chronic diseases, much of that infrastructure simply doesn’t exist yet. The good news is that many companies (including @ChronicleBioAI) are racing to build it.

But model intelligence and biological infrastructure are going to have to scale together. I really do believe AI can cure all diseases but only if we build the infrastructure to translate intelligence into cures at the same pace that models improve (which is a high bar!). Otherwise, we risk having superintelligent AI with an incomplete picture of human biology, and delay that promise by years.

A few principles I’ve come to believe about competition:

1) You’re more likely to win or lose because of your own company’s actions than those of your competition. This is particularly true of startups but I’ve found surprisingly true at scale as well. 

2) Being copied isn’t always inspiring. But it usually means you’re leading. Don’t waste energy looking over your shoulder. Lead, don’t follow.

3) There’s more to learn from customers than competitors. Consumer markets are hard, but they’re honest. Sales, engagement, and retention are the only scoreboard that matters.

4) There’s a difference between obsessing over competitors and harnessing a deeply competitive spirit. The former distracts you from your true intuition. The latter gives you the extra motivation to do your best work.

5) Creating a market is valuable. Continuing to lead after others copy you is even more valuable. You’re innovative and durable. 

6) Remember big, growing markets attract competition. Competition validates the opportunity.

I've known Andy since their seed round (thx @beller). Every month, like clockwork, he'd send an investor update with an impressive-looking bullet list of what they were going to get done that month. At the end of the month, the next update would show each of those bullets crossed out done—rarely they might miss one, and it would come with an ETA—and a list of what they'd get done the next month. Like clockwork, month after month after month. Andy, Tom, and the team are machines and it's been so impressive to watch them execute.

Space is critical to the future of humanity. I loved my time at @planet, I've watched @SpaceX in awe, and we should all be excited by how vibrant today's space ecosystem is. 

We need far more access to space than we have today. We need full reusability, which Stoke has been single-mindedly focused on since the start. And much more beyond this. Can't wait to help accelerate the @stoke_space mission any way I can!

Success in venture has a strange side effect. It can make you worse at your job.

@elizabeth, Founder and Managing Partner of @ScribbleVC, has spent a lot of time thinking about why. After growing Scribble to $280M AUM, returning 75% of her first fund to LPs, and raising an oversubscribed fund in this market, she has deliberately resisted the instinct to keep scaling the strategy.

Her argument is that every new constraint changes how you invest. Larger funds need larger ownership. Larger ownership means fewer companies fit the model. Before long, you're optimizing around check size instead of finding the best founders.

She told me something I hadn't really considered. A venture firm doesn't wake up one day and decide to become an asset manager. It happens gradually. More LP expectations. More ownership targets. More pressure to deploy capital. Eventually, the strategy that made the firm successful becomes the thing limiting it.

That's why Scribble doesn't have a hard ownership target. Elizabeth would rather own a smaller piece of an exceptional company than pass because the spreadsheet says the stake isn't big enough. As she put it, she'd rather own a sliver of OpenAI than a big stake in an average company.

She said it more plainly than I could have.

Our fund size is our strategy.

The best investors don't just protect their capital. They protect the incentives that made them good investors in the first place.

The field of software engineering is currently undergoing a renaissance, with AI having dramatically sped up software engineering even over just the past six months. AI is now on track to bring this same transformation to every other kind of work that people do with a computer.

Using a computer has always been about contorting yourself to the machine. You take a goal and break it down into smaller goals. You translate intent into instructions. We are moving into a world where you no longer have to micromanage the computer. More and more, it adapts to what you want. Rather doing work with a computer, the computer does work for you. The rate, scale, and sophistication of problem solving it will do for you will be bound by the amount of compute you have access to.

Friction is starting to disappear. You can try ideas faster. You can build things you would not have attempted before. Small teams can do what used to require much larger ones, and larger ones may be capable of unprecedented feats. More and more, people can turn intent into software, spreadsheets, presentations, workflows, science, and companies.

People are spending less energy managing the tool and more energy focusing on what they are actually trying to create. That shift brings a kind of joy back into work that many people haven’t felt in a long time. Everyone can just build things with these tools.

This is disruptive. Institutions will change, and the paths and jobs that people assumed were stable may not hold. We don’t know exactly how it will play out and we need to take mitigating downsides very seriously, as well as figuring out how to support each other as a society and world through this time. But there is something very freeing about this moment. For the first time, far more people can become who they want to become, with fewer barriers between an idea and a reality. OpenAI’s mission implies making sure that, as the tools do more, humans are the ones who set their intent and that the benefits are broadly distributed, rather than empowering just one or a small set of people.

We're already seeing this in practice with ChatGPT and Codex. Nearly a billion people are using these systems every week in their personal and work lives. Token usage is growing quickly on many use-cases, as the surface of ways people are getting value from these models keeps expanding.

Ten years ago, when we started OpenAI, we thought this moment might be possible. It’s happening on the earlier side, and happening in a much more interesting and empowering way for everyone than we’d anticipated (for example, we are seeing an emerging wave of entrepreneurship that we hadn’t previously been anticipating). And at the same time, we are still so early, and there is so much for everyone to define about how these systems get deployed and used in the world.

The next phase will be defined by systems that can do more — reason better, use tools better, plan over longer horizons, and take more useful actions on your behalf. And there are horizons beyond, as AI starts to accelerate science and technology development, which have the potential to truly lift up quality of life for everyone. All of this is starting to happen, in small ways and large, today, and everyone can participate. I feel this shift in my own work every day, and see a roadmap to much more useful and beneficial systems. These systems can truly benefit all of humanity.

Terence Tao proposes what he calls a "Copernican view of intelligence". 

Instead of buying into the common, one-dimensional narrative that artificial intelligence will simply evolve from "subhuman" to "superhuman" and ultimately make humanity entirely redundant, Tao urges us to look at the bigger picture.

Much like the Copernican revolution proved the Earth is not the center of the universe, Tao suggests we need to realize that human intelligence isn't the only, or necessarily the highest, form of intellect. Historically, we have treated other forms of storing or creating knowledge—like animals, books, and computers—as secondary. However, we actually exist within a much richer universe of intelligence.

Both human intelligence and computer intelligence possess their own distinct strengths and weaknesses. The true potential lies not in viewing them as direct competitors, but rather in focusing on collaboration. By working together, humans and computers can achieve additional things that neither could accomplish on their own, requiring us to think in much wider terms than just what humans or computers can do alone.

We’ve just released another paper solving five further Erdős problems with an internal model at OpenAI: arxiv.org/abs/2604.06609.

Several of the proofs were especially enjoyable to digest while writing the paper. My personal favorite was the solution to Erdős Problem 1091. The question asks: if a graph G has chromatic number 4, while every small subgraph has chromatic number at most 3, must it contain an odd cycle with many diagonals? The internal model gives a very enlightening counterexample to this conjecture, and the proof was a pleasure to understand.

For those so inclined, a really fun exercise is to try to reconstruct the proof from Figure 5 of the paper, which was of course produced by Codex.

Paper Review is built to act more like a careful technical reviewer than a grammar checker. It looks for issues in math, derivations, notation, units, structure, and whether a paper’s claims are actually supported by the results. It also catches inconsistencies across sections, figures, tables, captions, and appendices. The goal is to help authors strengthen technical rigor and correctness before submission.

Inside Prism, it runs as a structured workflow and writes its output as an editable LaTeX review file directly in the project. That means the review becomes part of the paper workspace itself, so authors can revise and work through feedback in the same environment as the manuscript. It also flags unclear phrasing, citation issues, and proofreading mistakes before submission.

It’s hard to believe it’s already been 100 days since I received my Neuralink N1 implant. Looking back, the whole journey feels like science fiction that somehow became my everyday reality.

The surgery on Day 0 was surprisingly easy. A quick general anaesthetic, a small incision, and the robotic system did the rest — precisely placing the 1,024 ultra-thin threads into my motor cortex. I woke up alert and in good spirits and went home the next afternoon. By Day 3 I was feeling a lot better, and by Day 7 the little scar was already starting to fade. Recovery was genuinely minimal; I felt sharper and more positive than I had been in years after the BCI was turned on.

The real fun started in Week 2 when we paired the implant with my brand-new Apple MacBook (my very first Mac). The @neuralink engineers walked me through calibration sessions, and within a couple of minutes I was moving the cursor just by thinking. At first it felt like trying to remember a dream, but by Week 3 it was second nature. Scrolling, clicking, typing — all mind-controlled. The Mac integration was buttery smooth; I went from total Mac newbie to power-user faster than I ever expected.

By Day 80 I was ready for the big leagues. That’s when I fired up @Warcraft of Warcraft for the first time with pure thought control. The first raid felt clunky, but once my brain and the BCI synced, it was pure magic. I’m now raiding, and exploring Azeroth hands-free at full speed — no mouse, no keyboard, just intention. It’s honestly brilliant. The freedom is addictive.

The social-media side has been just as surprising. Every update I’ve shared has been met with genuine excitement rather than scepticism. Thousands of messages from people with disabilities, gamers, students, and scientists — all asking real questions about the tech and what it could mean for the future. The positivity has been overwhelming and incredibly motivating.

100 days in and I already can’t imagine life without it. The N1 didn’t just give me a new way to use a computer — it gave me a new way to live. Can’t wait to see what the next 100 days bring.
