We recently made Lovable apps server-side rendered, which means better default discoverability from search engines like Google and AI answer engines like ChatGPT and Perplexity.

That meant rebuilding Lovable's foundations on @tan_stack Start.

Every week there’s new consensus on what’s best, but most people just want great results, and they don’t care which model powers that.

At Lovable, we spend a lot of time evaluating models internally so our users don’t have to. The goal is simple: automatically use the best model for the task so people can stay focused on building their business.

Don't underestimate how important it is to remove mental load for your customers at every step of the way.

There's a new kind of coding I call "vibe coding", where you fully give in to the vibes, embrace exponentials, and forget that the code even exists. It's possible because the LLMs (e.g. Cursor Composer w Sonnet) are getting too good. Also I just talk to Composer with SuperWhisper so I barely even touch the keyboard. I ask for the dumbest things like "decrease the padding on the sidebar by half" because I'm too lazy to find it. I "Accept All" always, I don't read the diffs anymore. When I get error messages I just copy paste them in with no comment, usually that fixes it. The code grows beyond my usual comprehension, I'd have to really read through it for a while. Sometimes the LLMs can't fix a bug so I just work around it or ask for random changes until it goes away. It's not too bad for throwaway weekend projects, but still quite amusing. I'm building a project or webapp, but it's not really coding - I just see stuff, say stuff, run stuff, and copy paste stuff, and it mostly works.

Paul Graham and Jessica Livingston have been role models for me since I started reading PG:s blog 10 years ago.

Had a sunny walk in Stockholm, and it was great to hear them admire Stockholm as potentially becoming the #1 destination for builders in Europe.

We also spoke about humans' role in the economy, when machine intelligence is able to do all the boring things. What was very clear is that entrepreneurs seeing opportunities, rallying people for change, and trying new things is one of the activities that has been around for 1000s of years, and will continue to exist.

Super proud that my hometown can be a role model in all of this, and to help millions of future founders building on the product we're working very hard on, and true pleasure talking to PG and Jessica!

Lovable had an incident this week, and I’m proud of our team for deploying a fix within hours of learning about it. But things shouldn’t have gone this way in the first place, and I take accountability. I’m sorry.

The team learned about the incident on X because our own vulnerability disclosure process was broken. That’s not because of our partners at HackerOne. It’s on us. We could’ve reacted much sooner and I never want people to think that the only time we care about an issue is if it goes viral. We care that everyone who uses Lovable can trust it, and trust us, to do right by them. We appreciate and need ethical hackers to help us make the product safer, and security researchers should know we value them.

We also made decisions in our product that might’ve felt logical when we launched but feel really out of touch with user expectations now. It doesn’t matter what the intent was, it matters that we make decisions that keep customer trust at the forefront at all times. We’ve done a lot of work on this in the last year, and when things like this incident happen, it shows me there is more to do.

So we’re going to do more and we’re going to communicate about it better.

Lovable should be the safest place to build.

I'm happy to welcome Patrik "Totte" Torstensson to Lovable as our new Head of Engineering, recommended to us by Daniel Ek.

Totte spent 35 years leading engineering at some of the most demanding companies in the world: Principal Engineer at Spotify, leading Android and Wear OS at Google, and building a 130-person engineering org at Meta.

He's Swedish, and he's moving back to Stockholm for this role after a decade in Silicon Valley and London. He wanted to be at a company that is truly AI-native and still early enough to shape.

Lovable is past figuring out if this works. Now we're building the organization that carries it forward, and Totte is exactly who we want leading that.

Engineering and product leaders in Stockholm and Europe, you are sorely needed for European sovereignty.

Startups are working hard to build enduring global companies from Europe. Their products are often platforms that fundamentally enable humans to solve societal problems with AI.

This decade, the technology that cements global power structures is being built. I believe Europe has lots to offer the world in terms of values and long-term thinking. These values propagate when Europe stays relevant by developing platforms the world relies on. If you help, you are significantly improving the chances that European-built platforms flourish, and become something that coming generations will use and talk about.

It's good for you too. You will get ownership stakes in the company you build. You will learn new skills, skills that do not become obsolete as AI fundamentally removes the need to write code. The journey will likely connect you with people who unlock opportunities you didn't realize existed, and with likeminded people that will stay friends with you for the rest of your life.

For the last few decades, it's been surprisingly unusual for people who actually have the problems to be the ones building software to solve them.

That's now changing, and we're seeing all types of people build specific software that solves the problems they have. The old gatekeepers are gone. You don’t need the right city, the right network, or the right investors.

Lovable is one of the most misunderstood startups in tech.

It gets a lot of flak here on X. "It's just vibe coding." "It's a toy." "Real engineers don't use it." I think these people are missing the point.

The thing about big markets is they all start small. Amazon sold books. Shopify was a snowboard shop. The iPhone got laughed at for not having a keyboard. The best opportunities are the ones where a small TAM turns into a massive TAM over time. I think that’s happening with Lovable right now.

What looks like quick prototyping and weekend side projects today is becoming the foundation for a whole new generation of builders. Tobi at Shopify just said it perfectly: "The most AI proof job in the world is entrepreneurship." Lovable is building the workbench for that job.

But the bigger thing most people are missing is the shift from software-as-a-service to service-as-software. For years, businesses bought generic SaaS and bent their workflows to fit. Now the cost of building custom software is falling toward zero. That changes the game, especially for SMB and medium-sized businesses.

Think about your local business owner. They know their business so well and probably have a thousand paper cuts they wished they could solve or untapped opportunities they wished they could pursue. They might build their own solutions on Lovable, but more importantly I believe there will be a whole new wave of non-technical entrepreneurs stepping in to build agencies that serve exactly these businesses. Bespoke customer interfaces. Agent-powered support. Internal tools that actually fit how a company works. That's a massive latent market getting unlocked.
